The mezuzah itself is written by a trained scribe. The scribe, who has had intense and thorough training, actually handwrites with quill and ink, the text in a very specific & traditional script. The mezuzah covers contain the handwritten scrolls of parchment that contain the Shema: "Hear O Israel, the Lord our G-d is One." And also "you shall love your G-d with all your heart, all your soul and all your might." These two thoughts, the ultimate oneness of G-d and our personal relationship with Him, are so integral to the our faith that every Jewish home is adorned with these words.
The mezuzah is not considered a lucky symbol or a talisman - only a symbolic reminder of the commandments that G-d has giving us. The mezuzah is affixed to the right door posts of the rooms of the house. Comments
