David Yohanan was born in Tiberias (Teveria), Israel in 1971. He was viewed as a child prodigy and was enrolled in the Betzalel School of Art in Jerusalem, while also pursuing his Torah studies in a Jerusalem yeshiva.
In addition to his classical artistic skills, he also developed a mastery of Jewish Scribal Art.
